Bird Thomas, Community-Building Maestro

Bird Thomas was the Curator of Fun Learning Experiences at The Center For Contemporary Arts in downtown Abilene, Tx until 2016. She’s a good friend and powerful community builder.

When I think of people who excel at bringing others into their projects and getting different types people involved in a common purpose, I think of Bird.

She has successfully taken a monthly art gathering and turned it into a city-wide event (Art Walk). Our conversation together dives into what it takes for artists and creative builders to create the communities they want.

She also talks about the power of focus and intention. And she has a perfect piece of advice for artists for exactly what you have to do to create the thing you dream of most.

Episode 7: Jerzy Jung

JerzyJungAwardTo be successful in the entertainment and music industry, you have to work and work, and work some more. I’ve shared a few stories about Paying Your Dues that the best in entertainment (movies in particular) have told, and Jerzy Jung follows that mantra. Not only is she a heralded singer-songwriter, but also an aspiring actress, and music teacher. While hard-worker is definitely a word I’d use to describe her, she is also a person dedicated to peace and joy, which has transformed how she grows her career and builds connections with her community.
