Everyone is an influencer.
It’s not a matter of social following numbers or popularity.
We know about influencer culture in social media, people with millions of “followers” on their profiles and who seem to have the sway over massive amounts of people to buy what they suggest. Some businesses build their entire branding strategy around being picked up by influencers to get the masses to buy their widgets.
But social media didn’t originate the influencer dynamic. It’s been around for a very long time.
The news media still exists despite an innumerable amount of competing media available for people to spend their time and focus on. So let’s use them as an example.
The news influences people to be afraid of crime, migrants, the economy, recession, politicians, outcomes, defeat of any kind, business and corporations, the rich, the poor, the weather, your neighbors, groups of people gathered together, sports outcomes….
You name it and the news has influenced your views about it in one way or another.
I used to work for a news media organization and I found myself being increasingly angry at certain politicians and political parties, being afraid of the economy and business, and being suspicious of people who didn’t know what was going on in the world.
Now I think those people are enlightened.
Because how much does supposedly “knowing what’s going on in the world” improve our lives, our wellbeing, our relationships, and our consciousness?
Is it any surprise why violence, depravity, scarcity, lack, hate, indifference, greed, corruption, and fear pervade the collective consciousness?
The news reports don’t address the root cause of these areas, or what I call “the story beneath the story.”
The roots are the energy, the thought and the feeling combined, that produce the results we see and experience in our lives and world.
Consciousness creates reality.
The world is a mirror of what is going on inside of us.
If you want to change the world, you have to go to the cause. Effects don’t change effects.
That’s why Mother Teresa and Ghandi refused to march against violence and hate.
If you march against something, you’re giving energy and attention to the very thing you don’t want.
Effects can’t create different effects. Only causes can.
News reports are focused on effects.
So are social media videos and posts, except for ones that come from people who have elevated their consciousness enough to know that the cause is found in the roots of the mind and heart to create change.
The story beneath the story is the cause.
We have to get beneath the surface level and dig into the soil of consciousness (your inner garden of heart and mind) to create the change at the cause (source).
Has the news influenced you?
Maybe you don’t watch the news. Woohooo!!! You’re enlightened!
But maybe the news reports from other media forms are influencing you in unconscious ways.
If you’re afraid of something or someone because you saw something online or heard a story related to the subject, congratulations. You’ve been influenced to think and feel negatively about something.
That’s influence. The news influenced your energy and subconscious to think and feel in fear.
Apply this same principle to any area of life.
Social media does this too, in massive proportions!
Endlessly scrolling through your feed will influence your thoughts and feelings on any number of subjects.
Just ask yourself how you feel after you watch the next video on TikTok or Youtube, or how you feel after you read the next meme on Instagram or see some business tip on LinkedIn.
What’s the energy or vibe that you think and feel from that content? Whatever it is, is what you’re attracting in and attracted to unconsciously. That’s what’s influencing the story beneath the story that you’re telling yourself about everything unconsciously.
That’s the cause of your concept of self, which is more than what you think about just you.
Your self-concept is your core beliefs about you, other people, the world, life itself, what’s possible, and even GOD.
Because all of those beliefs are stored and housed inside your marvelous inner garden (mind, heart, body and spirit).
If you want to change your life and the world you know, you have to start at the cause which is your inner garden or your consciousness.
The story beneath the story is what has to be rewritten and transformed in order to experience change in your life, relationships, finances, and experiences.
Honestly, I haven’t followed the “Influencer” crowd for a long time.
I have no idea who is popular and cool. If you ever listened to The Appetizer Radio Show back in the day, you know that I abhorred the pop music that mainstream radio played ad nauseam. So I did my own thing and played awesome music that most people had never heard of.
I still do this with my music selections around the house. And I do it with the books I read, the videos I watch online, and the people I let be influential voices in my life.
Because I’m actively and consciously rewriting my inner story.
It’s a process.
I no longer have space in my life for anything that influences me to think and feel in terms of scarcity, lack, unworthiness, and not good enough-ness.
If something doesn’t add positivity and goodness to my vibe and energy, adios dude!
I’m taking this to a new level this year by putting up some boundaries for myself for the time I spend on social media and even TV viewing to ensure that I remain balanced and focused on the energies that I want to foster and grow. Energies like prosperity, abundance, Love, joy, peace, bliss, success, happiness, health, and fun.
There are a few creators on social media who I listen to often to continuously reshape my inner world and influence my thinking and feel because their content continuously improves and blesses my consciousness and inner garden.
Brian Scott, David O’Locker (Elmer O’Locker Jr), Jess Stafford, Here Nor There, Your Youniverse, and others (mostly on Youtube) are amazing people who have helped me rewrite the story beneath the story in my life, and transform my inner garden.
My storytelling reflects and illustrates this dynamic by showcasing a gripping narrative you can see yourself in as well as pointing to the story beneath the story for you to dig deeper into.
That’s why I’m super excited to release my first short story anthology, The Resplendent Window Vol 1 in a few weeks.
You can read the first story featured in the anthology for free here.
